Description
The Government of Canada has a duty to consult with Indigenous Peoples and, where appropriate, accommodate their interests when it contemplates conduct that might adversely impact potential and established Aboriginal and treaty rights.
To demonstrate Canada's commitment, the Consultation and Accommodation Unit was created in 2008 within what is now Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada. Throughout the implementation of its mandate, the Unit has engaged with Indigenous communities, organizations and educators to ensure that dialogue is ongoing and Indigenous perspectives are understood.
