Mitigating Misinformation

Description

With extremist and populist movements spreading falsehoods on digital platforms, governments around the world are increasingly concerned how misinformation is affecting social cohesion and democratic processes.

The Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) has analyzed misinformation campaigns targeting the May 2019 European Parliamentary elections, as well as other elections in Europe in 2017 and 2018. The organization used its findings to establish how state actors, transnational non-state actors, and domestic extremist and populist actors have used these campaigns to sow division and influence votes.

Join us to hear about the ISD's work on this issue, as well as the role major tech platforms play in the situation, and potential policy remedies to mitigate misinformation's impact on democracy.
